New Ventures in 2013

November 2103. Back in the saddle, so they say. After completing my MA last year (2102) I have been concentrating on a variety of projects but I'll start with the most recent and then do a retrospective once I get a moment. My current work involves a large mural for "Clown-Around" in Harston. This is a new indoor soft-play area. My design is just beginning to take shape with the "ball pit" first slick of paint at the base of the wall. I will post regularly with progress! Whole bunch of fun. Lots of inquisitive kids, regular cups of very welcome tea and friendly staff!  The wall is a plain magnolia with the peg board in situ, which will remain.

Using acrylic paints (undiluted) and freehand "balls" for the base of the design.

Earlier projects

October 2013 saw me at "The Friends School" as a story illustrator. As the story was narrated by one of the teachers at a "Story Tea Time" event held in the school's library. I basically drew images to accompany the story. The children varied in age from nursery to year 2. For this kind of work, you need to be seriously quick on the draw!

I am concurrently continuing my work for a local retail florists which involves during their entire range of floral tributes and products. Their website is to launch soon. My drawings are not "botanical" in the truest sense, but my client wanted a quirky and playful approach to her designed range. This wreath will feature in her general range. Reproduced here by kind permission of Eden's Flowers, Harston. The drawing is in rotring pen ink on plain cartridge paper.

Fun at home:

From early this year to around April 2103, I had a lot of fun working on my daughter's bedroom wall creating a mural to her own specification. This "had" to include a mermaid, a whale, ammonites, crystals and jewels! She insisted I must find room for a shark. Fortunately this all managed to cobble together fairly well with the results below in acrylics on prepared commercial mat emulsion.
